To have a fuel-efficient car, it needs to be able to cut through the air with ease, so Car and Driver decided to take five vehicles—the Chevrolet Volt, Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S P85, and the Toyota Prius—and measure their aerodynamic drag.

While the Volt has the third largest drag area, which is the size of the front multiplied by the drag coefficient, it still managed to be one of the two cars that lived up to its official drag coefficient number, the other being the Model S. Though the Model S was named the most aerodynamic choice of the batch, the Volt proved that it was the most aerodynamic all-electric car with a final drag coefficient of 0.28.
