Chevrolet likes to give back to various communities around the globe, which is one of the reasons the Chevrolet Global Mascot Contest was founded several years ago. This year, a 10-year-old boy from Mexico became the 11th member of the program, representing one of his favorite soccer teams.
The winner of the competition, named Oscar, will be participating as a mascot for Manchester United, one of the premier soccer teams in the world. According to Chevrolet, the Global Mascot Contest is part of the Beautiful Possibilities Program, providing underprivileged children opportunities to travel and experience the world.
“Through the years, we’ve heard from our fans that they, too, would like an opportunity to join our squad,” said John Gasloli, Chevrolet Global Marketing. “This year, we evolved the program to invite parents and guardians to nominate a child to be our 11th Mascot. We are thrilled to have Oscar join this year’s Chevrolet Starting XI.”
Oscar was born with a rare hip condition, leading doctors to believe he would never walk again. However, after years of perseverance and incredible discipline, Oscar is able to walk freely—as well as cheer for his favorite soccer team. In addition to cheering for the team, Oscar will attend the Man-United Soccer School and tour Old Trafford stadium in Greater Manchester, England.
