2018 Chevrolet SUVs Arrive in Canada

2018 Chevrolet SUVs - Equinox - Nehls Chevrolet

Crossovers and SUVs are extremely popular throughout North America, making the debut of 2018 models in Canada even more important. Chevrolet introduced the all-new 2018 Traverse and Equinox at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The new SUVs mark a continuing reinvigoration of the entire Chevrolet lineup.

The 2018 Chevrolet SUVs are the third and fourth updated models to be released within the past year. The first two were the Trax and Bolt EV. The two new SUVs are a sign that Chevrolet is continuing to move forward by updating existing models.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse boasts a full redesign. Updated styling and advanced technologies make it a top competitor throughout the segment. The latest model includes best-in-class third-row legroom and a full list of active safety features.

The new Chevrolet Equinox boasts a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that delivers a GM-estimated 136 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Official fuel economy estimates are forthcoming.

The Equinox’s new diesel engine marks another addition to Chevrolet’s portfolio as well.

“Market trends in Canada tell us that two-thirds of all customer purchases are SUVs and pickup trucks. Last year we shook up the truck market with the new mid-sized Colorado and we’ve reinvigorated our car lineup with Volt, Cruze and Malibu,” said Laura Pacey, Chevrolet Canada brand director.

We here at Nehl’s Chevrolet are excited for the 2018 model year!

Chevrolet Debuts New SEMA Concepts

SEMA is known for being an event that intrigues and inspires. It’s certainly not your average car show, as manufacturers from all over pull out all the stops in modifying existing nameplates or introducing entirely new SEMA concepts, which are made to be indulgent and exciting. Chevrolet brought six different concepts to the event, ranging from a Colorado model with a distinctly Southern Cali flair to a couple Camaros tweaked to deliver unparalleled thrills.

Chevy brought quite a few trucks to the show – two Silverados and the aforementioned Colorado. The Silverado 1500 High Desert is a real package that can actually be purchased on upper-range trim levels, though the SEMA version did add a few new goodies, like bronze 22-inch wheels and a new performance exhaust. The Silverado HD Carhartt Concept and the Colorado Z71 Hurley Concept were both described as “lifestyle enablers,” with the Carhartt being modified for a more outdoorsy lifestyle and the Hurley being built as a mobile beach house for surfers.

The new SEMA concepts from Chevy also included the Camaro SS Drag Race Development Car, the Camaro Turbo AutoX Concept, and even the reputable name of the COPO Camaro. While the first two were made to appeal to fans of drag racing and autocross, respectively, the COPO Camaro is an old vet who’s seen the stage since 1969.

New Silverado Midnight Edition Ready for Chicago Auto Show

While it may be cliché to say, we’re going to say it anyway: black is back. Actually, it’s not like black really went away, but now it’s back in a new way—in the form of the new Silverado Midnight Edition, which will make its public debut at the Chicago Auto Show. However, it was actually already on display at the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention & Expo in San Francisco, so you can check out some photos of its soft debut before it shows up in Chicago on February 14.

The truck starts as a black Silverado Z71 and adds all kinds of cool accents and features. It’s got black everything, from a black front grille all the way to black Chevrolet bowties on both the front and back. “The Midnight special edition, like our recently announced Custom Sport Silverado, lets our dealers offer a custom look right from the factory,” said Sandor Piszar, Silverado marketing director. “Customers can get a monochrome exterior, black alloy wheels and other uplevel touches, while maintaining all of the dependability Chevy trucks are famous for along with full factory warranty coverage.”

You can get the Silverado Midnight Edition as either a double-cap or crew-cab model. You’ll also get 18-inch wheels, Z71 badges on the doors, new lights, and even a spray-in bedliner. What more can you ask for from a great new special edition truck? There will be up to 5,000 of these special edition Silverado 1500s made this year, so come see us at Nehls Chevrolet to learn more.

Chevy Teases Fans with Glimpse of Next-Generation Camaro in Detroit

Next-Generation Camaro

We didn’t get the full reveal of the next-generation Camaro we were hoping for at the North American International Auto Show, but we did get an all-too-quick glimpse of the eventual new model (we think). Though the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle headlined the lineup, Chevy also showed an image of five new models coming to production this year. The image only revealed silhouettes, but we’re pretty sure one of those silhouettes was that of a Camaro.

The image has been enhanced online now—and the more we look at it, the more it looks like a Camaro to us here at Nehls Chevrolet. The folks at CamaroNews isolated the supposed Camaro silhouette, which features the familiar body design of the popular sports car and a pointier, edgier front grille design. Overall, if this is the new Camaro, it promises to be an exciting new variation on the sport car’s iconic theme.

The Camaro silhouette was joined by silhouettes for new generations of the Cruze, Malibu, and Spark. Also pictured was the Chevrolet Bolt, although that vehicle was already present in concept form at the auto show. Of course, as practical and progressive as the Bolt will be, it’s unlikely to upstage the Camaro in terms of excitement. The new Camaro, with its more aerodynamic design, will hit the market sometime later this year, so make sure to check back with us often for updates!

Chevrolet CrossVolt Hybrid Possible?

Chevrolet Volt Badge

Lawyers from GM have reportedly renewed the brand’s CrossVolt trademark, sparking rumors that a new Chevrolet CrossVolt Hybrid crossover might be in the works, after initially being trademarked by the company in April of 2011.

Since the new 2016 Chevy Volt is scheduled to debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this month, many are speculating that Chevrolet might have plans to make the CrossVolt Hybrid into a heavily related vehicle.

This trademark decision has obviously inspired rumors all over the Internet, making it hard to remember that the trademark has been owned by Chevy for years. Just because it’s been renewed doesn’t technically mean it will be used. But there’s no reason not to hope, right?

First Restored Sinkhole Corvette “Blue Devil” Appears at SEMA

Remember, back in February, when eight precious Corvettes were swallowed by an unforgiving sinkhole that opened up inside the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky? While that natural disaster has brought visitors from around the globe to check out the gaping hole and the cars that fell in it, the museum and General Motors decided it was about time to repair the three Corvettes that are salvageable.

The first restored sinkhole Corvette, a 2009 Corvette ZR1 called the “Blue Devil,” made a surprise stop at the SEMA show in Vegas on its way home. The “Blue Devil” was the least damaged Corvette, and was lifted out of the sinkhole just weeks after the ground opened up, and has now been repaired to its former glory.

According to USA Today, damage consisted of cracked carbon-fiber ground effects, broken passenger-side rocker panel, damaged passenger front fender, and cracks in the windshield, both doors, and the oil lines leading to the engine. It took about six weeks to restore the classic car to its original condition.

“It was great to recover it, bring it back to Chevrolet, and begin the restoration of this significant Corvette,” said Jim Campbell, the US VP of performance vehicles and motorsports.

The other two Corvettes will be restored next year: the one millionth Corvette and a 1962 Corvette. The other five Corvettes, for the time being, will remain as they are, both a tourist attraction and a piece of history.

Check Out Chevrolet’s SEMA Show Lineup

One of the most exciting car shows of the year is the SEMA show in Las Vegas. SEMA, which stands for Specialty Equipment Market Association, is really an event to show off great after-market products for cars and gives automakers a chance to show off some wickedly awesome custom cars.

This year, Chevrolet will be bringing some performance-oriented concepts of the SS Sport, Sonic, Impala, and Cruze. The cars will officially debut at the SEMA show November 4-7, but Chevrolet was kind enough to give us a preview of its SEMA show lineup.

“Chevrolet’s 2015 passenger car lineup is one of the strongest and most competitive in the industry, offering customers a wide range of great-looking, great-driving and well-connected choices,” said Paul Edwards, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing, in a statement. “They’re personal cars, too, and these concepts suggest possibilities of how to amplify Chevrolet’s heritage of performance and fun-to-drive spirit to make them even more personal.”

Starting with the SS Sport, Chevrolet recognized its Australian lineage and gave the custom SS wheel caps and floor mats with the Holden logo. Next it gave it a Some Like It Red Hot coat of paint with body-color door handles and mirrors. A grille kit, fog lamp bezel, side fender vents, and a rear spoiler give an aggressive look. And, a final touch of stripes for the hood and deck lid take the SS to the next level.

Chevrolet Sweeps the 2014 NAIAS Awards

Chevrolet took home two big 2014 NAIAS awards.
Chevrolet made quite a showing at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.

Chevy fans will not be disappointed at the Detroit Auto Show this year. Chevrolet took home the top 2014 NAIAS awards.

The automaker’s 2014 Corvette Stingray and Silverado truck took home top honors with Car of the Year and Truck of the Year.

The Stingray was a huge improvement on the last model with a better interior. Its performance was also better due to its 455 horsepower V8 engine. Its $51,000 also makes it one of the best value sports cars in its market.

Chevy’s Silverado truck has been praised by lots of critics, including Consumer Reports magazine. Its base v8-powered engine gets it an estimated 19 MPG overall. This fuel economy not only trumps the previous year Silverado, but it also outdoes the F-150.

It’s no wonder why these two vehicles are at the top of their class. A majority of 50 automotive journalists thought so.

Do you agree? Give us your thoughts on these two excellent vehicles.
