Chevrolet SUVs Getting a New Look with RST Special Editions

There’s nothing quite like driving something with a little bit of flare that stands out from the crowd. Chevrolet has announced new Rally Sport Truck (RST) editions for both the Tahoe and Suburban. These special editions will deliver more power and unique styling for both models.

The RST special editions will be available to order and here at Lewis Nissan this fall. To give these models a street performance look, nearly all chrome accents have been removed and replaced with a body-color grille surround and door handles; black roof rails, badging, window trim, and Chevy bowtie; and a gloss-black grille and mirror caps. They will also come with unique 22-inch wheels.

Both models have available upgrades. For better exhaust flow, the Borla performance exhaust system offers a 28% improvement, which translates to a gain of 7-10 horsepower. Available front red Brembo brake calipers enhance the shopping power with an 84% increase in brake pad area and a 42% increase in rotor area.

The Tahoe RST is available with a Performance Package that amps up the power with a 6.2-liter V8 engine rated at 420 horsepower. This package also includes Magnetic Ride Control with a performance calibration and a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Are you looking forward to giving these RST special editions a try?  Contact us at Nehls Chevrolet for any questions!

2018 Chevrolet SUVs Arrive in Canada

2018 Chevrolet SUVs - Equinox - Nehls Chevrolet

Crossovers and SUVs are extremely popular throughout North America, making the debut of 2018 models in Canada even more important. Chevrolet introduced the all-new 2018 Traverse and Equinox at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The new SUVs mark a continuing reinvigoration of the entire Chevrolet lineup.

The 2018 Chevrolet SUVs are the third and fourth updated models to be released within the past year. The first two were the Trax and Bolt EV. The two new SUVs are a sign that Chevrolet is continuing to move forward by updating existing models.

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse boasts a full redesign. Updated styling and advanced technologies make it a top competitor throughout the segment. The latest model includes best-in-class third-row legroom and a full list of active safety features.

The new Chevrolet Equinox boasts a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that delivers a GM-estimated 136 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Official fuel economy estimates are forthcoming.

The Equinox’s new diesel engine marks another addition to Chevrolet’s portfolio as well.

“Market trends in Canada tell us that two-thirds of all customer purchases are SUVs and pickup trucks. Last year we shook up the truck market with the new mid-sized Colorado and we’ve reinvigorated our car lineup with Volt, Cruze and Malibu,” said Laura Pacey, Chevrolet Canada brand director.

We here at Nehl’s Chevrolet are excited for the 2018 model year!

2017 Chevy Cruze Diesel Sedan Sets New Fuel Economy Benchmark at 52 MPG

Two chevy cruze models driving in the city
The new Chevy Cruze Diesel Sedan has smashed fuel economy records at 52 miles per gallon, the highest non-hybrid, non-EV rating in the auto industry. Chevy estimates the Cruze Diesel has a range of up to 702 highway miles on one tank of gas.

Steven Majoros, the director of Chevrolet Marketing, says drivers can “get it all” with the Cruze Diesel in terms of “the right combination of fuel efficiency, driving dynamics, fuel type, and more.” The Cruze Diesel’s 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine puts out 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque and meets all US environmental standards.

The Cruze Diesel Sedan comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission or an all-new nine-speed Hydra-Matic nine-speed automatic with Stop-Start technology to further improve fuel economy by stopping the engine when idling. The Cruze Diesel Sedan has fuel economy ratings of at 30 mpg city and 37 mpg combined in addition to the 52 mpg on the highway.

The Cruze Diesel Sedan starts at $24,670 and will be followed later this year by a Cruze Diesel Hatchback. It will have a range of available features including OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in WiFi hotspot, Chevy MyLink, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity.

Chevrolet Debuts New SEMA Concepts

SEMA is known for being an event that intrigues and inspires. It’s certainly not your average car show, as manufacturers from all over pull out all the stops in modifying existing nameplates or introducing entirely new SEMA concepts, which are made to be indulgent and exciting. Chevrolet brought six different concepts to the event, ranging from a Colorado model with a distinctly Southern Cali flair to a couple Camaros tweaked to deliver unparalleled thrills.

Chevy brought quite a few trucks to the show – two Silverados and the aforementioned Colorado. The Silverado 1500 High Desert is a real package that can actually be purchased on upper-range trim levels, though the SEMA version did add a few new goodies, like bronze 22-inch wheels and a new performance exhaust. The Silverado HD Carhartt Concept and the Colorado Z71 Hurley Concept were both described as “lifestyle enablers,” with the Carhartt being modified for a more outdoorsy lifestyle and the Hurley being built as a mobile beach house for surfers.

The new SEMA concepts from Chevy also included the Camaro SS Drag Race Development Car, the Camaro Turbo AutoX Concept, and even the reputable name of the COPO Camaro. While the first two were made to appeal to fans of drag racing and autocross, respectively, the COPO Camaro is an old vet who’s seen the stage since 1969.

New Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang Share Gearbox

New Chevrolet Camaro
The newest Camaro will get an all new gearbox inside a design that holds true to its heritage.

If you’re a diehard muscle car enthusiast, odds are you’ve already heard that Ford and Chevrolet have teamed up to develop a new gearbox. As unlikely as it sounds, the idea behind the joint development was to save money as both automakers can use the new 10-speed automatic transmission. As it turns out, both the new Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang will share the new transmission.

This is the same transmission that Chevrolet has already claimed shifts faster than Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch. That’s not something to take lightly and that means both the Camaro and Mustang could become more performance-driven than ever before.

That’s good news for performance enthusiasts, especially since Chevrolet has already ruled out both a hybrid, diesel, and all-wheel drive Camaro. With the latest Camaro preparing to hit markets, it’s good to hear that the engineering and design teams won’t leave the muscle car’s history in the dust.

“Those of us that work on the Camaro are purists, we love the original, long hood, the strong shoulders, the mantra that ‘nobody needs a Camaro, they want a Camaro.’ You know, I think for the foreseeable future, you’re going to see us stay true to Camaro heritage,” said Al Oppenheiser, head engineer of Camaro.

Here at Nehls Chevrolet, we can’t wait to see the Camaro smoke the Mustang, new gearbox and all!

Jeff Gordon Announces Plans to Retire; Chase Elliott Slated to Drive No. 24

It’s the end of an era in the world of racing as Jeff Gordon announces plans to retire from full-time NASCAR competition next season. While Jeff Gordon can never be replaced, a new age will commence for the iconic no. 24 Chevrolet with the up-and-coming Chase Elliott, son of NASCAR legend and Hall of Fame racer, Bill Elliot.

Earning the reputation as a fierce competitor, upstanding gentlemen, and Pepsi prankster, Gordon first began his NASCAR career in 1992, and shortly thereafter won his first of three Daytona 500s at the age of 25 – becoming the youngest to finish first in the race.

A winner in his own right, Elliott is the youngest champion of any NASCAR series after winning the 2014 Nationwide Championship. “Chase brings the kind of intangibles that make him the total package as a driver,” team owner Rick Hendrick said. “Not only is he a special talent inside the car, but there’s a natural combination of competitiveness, work ethic and smarts that you rarely see.”

We here at Nehls Chevrolet will watch with great nostalgia as Gordon takes the No. 24 for his last laps around the track – but with great relish look forward to the new age of Chevy racing!
