The Texas and Pacific Railway Museum is located inside the Texas and Pacific Railway Depot, also known as the T&P Depot, located in Marshall, Texas. The depot is an active train station and also houses a museum dedicated to the former employees who played an important role in the development of the town and the state of Texas.

The depot was originally built in 1912 and is located in the Ginocchio National Historical District, a registered national historic area in Marshall. The depot welcomed soldiers during World War I and II and at one time held immigration offices.

Today, the depot runs as an Amtrak station and goes all the way north to Chicago and west/southwest to Dallas, San Antonio, and Los Angeles. The museum inside is filled with artifacts and photos from as far back as the 1870s, including a replica office with a working telegraph key and a 1920s-era panoramic photo of the entire industrial area and all the local shops.

The museum tells the story of the Texas and Pacific Hospital and has displays children will enjoy like working train models that wind through models of historic Marshall buildings. If you’re looking for something to do in Marshall, pay a visit to the Railway Museum.

The Cruze Diesel Sedan starts at $24,670 and will be followed later this year by a Cruze Diesel Hatchback. It will have a range of available features including OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in WiFi hotspot, Chevy MyLink, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity.

Lease or Buy a Car

Is It Smarter to Lease or Buy a Car?

Cars are a significant financial investment, so it’s important for you to make the most informed decision possible when looking for the right vehicle. The decision that it comes down to for many people is whether they should lease or buy a car. Here is what you need to know.

Should I Lease or Buy a Car?When to Lease

As leasing a vehicle doesn’t make as much sense financially as purchasing a car, there are just a couple of scenarios where it makes sense.

One such scenario is if you are someone who likes to drive new cars regularly. If you can’t afford to purchase a new car every year or two, leasing a car gives you the opportunity to cruise around in the newest car, truck, or SUV.

Another scenario where it makes sense to lease is if you simply don’t want to deal with the risk and maintenance of owning a car. A lot of leases include maintenance in their deals, so you don’t have to get the car fixed on your own.

When to Buy

Financially speaking, buying a car is the better choice. When you lease a vehicle, you spend a lot of money and don’t own anything at the end of the lease. When you purchase a car, you own that car, and you get some of that money back when you sell it. Just make sure that it’s a car that you can afford.

How to Detail Your Car

How to Detail Your Car

How to Detail Your Car

Many people out there want to keep their cars looking nice and clean. However, most don’t want to pay the steep price to have it done professionally. Luckily, you can learn how to do it like the professionals. Here’s how to detail your car properly.

Start With Compressed Air

With your air compressor, blow the pesky dirt out of the corners of your car and into the center of your vehicle. After you’ve blown the dirt from the corners of your car, turn the air compressor on your vents to clean them out. Then afterwards, vacuum up the dirt from the center of your car.

Moving Outside

After cleaning the interior of your vehicle, wash the exterior. However, be careful with the type of soap that you choose. Find a cleaner that is not acid-based, as acid-based cleaners eat away at the protective layers on your paint and rims. Start at the top of your car and move down so that you don’t get dirt on areas that have already been cleaned.

While these tips certainly aren’t comprehensive, following these steps will help you keep your car looking spiffy. You’ll also experience the satisfaction of a job well done when you finish.

Chevrolet Debuts New SEMA Concepts

SEMA is known for being an event that intrigues and inspires. It’s certainly not your average car show, as manufacturers from all over pull out all the stops in modifying existing nameplates or introducing entirely new SEMA concepts, which are made to be indulgent and exciting. Chevrolet brought six different concepts to the event, ranging from a Colorado model with a distinctly Southern Cali flair to a couple Camaros tweaked to deliver unparalleled thrills.

Chevy brought quite a few trucks to the show – two Silverados and the aforementioned Colorado. The Silverado 1500 High Desert is a real package that can actually be purchased on upper-range trim levels, though the SEMA version did add a few new goodies, like bronze 22-inch wheels and a new performance exhaust. The Silverado HD Carhartt Concept and the Colorado Z71 Hurley Concept were both described as “lifestyle enablers,” with the Carhartt being modified for a more outdoorsy lifestyle and the Hurley being built as a mobile beach house for surfers.

The new SEMA concepts from Chevy also included the Camaro SS Drag Race Development Car, the Camaro Turbo AutoX Concept, and even the reputable name of the COPO Camaro. While the first two were made to appeal to fans of drag racing and autocross, respectively, the COPO Camaro is an old vet who’s seen the stage since 1969.

Colorado powertrain options

New 2017 Colorado Powertrain Options Revealed

Colorado powertrain options
The 2017 Colorado will come packed with new, exciting powertrain options!

For the past year or two, the Chevy Colorado has been a hot topic in the pickup segment after winning a long list of awards and introducing a new class-exclusive diesel engine with unparalleled fuel economy. That means Chevrolet had to find a way to up their game for the 2017 model year. It’s worked out, however, because 2017 Colorado powertrain options include not only a new engine, but a brand-new transmission.

The new engine will be a 3.6-liter V6, the same engine found in Cadillac’s ATS, CTS, CT6, and XT5 models. With new tech like active fuel management, revised direct injection, and better variable valve timing, the V6 is expected to vastly improve performance and fuel efficiency. The 2017 Colorado with the new V6 gets a power boost to 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, an improvement over the 2016 model’s 305 ponies and 269 lb-ft of torque.

The Colorado powertrain options also include a new transmission, an eight-speed automatic gearbox that’s expected to improve fuel economy even further, as well as boost the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado’s towing capacity thanks to its higher first gear ratio. Information on pricing for the new 2017 model is not yet available, but it’s expected to go on sale sometime this fall. If you have any questions about the new Colorado come visit us at Nehls Chevrolet in Marshall, TX!

Fire Ant Festival

Marshall Prepares for Yearly Fire Ant Festival

Fire Ant Festival
Come see what the Fire Ant Festival is all about!

Marshall fits into the region known as East Texas, which is famously (at least for locals) plagued by fire ants. However, instead of lamenting these painful pests, Marshall makes the most of the situation by celebrating regional pride through the yearly Fire Ant Festival. It’s both one of the area’s largest fundraisers, as well as a great, quirky celebration for Marshall residents who come and spend the second weekend in October to socialize, experience live entertainment, and see the sights of downtown Marshall.

Some of the most popular attractions at the festival are the fire ant mascots, which are represented by actors in hand-crafted costumes. There is one male and female fire ant, Freddy and Elvira, and their daughter Sugar. The mascots wearing the costumes will be out and about in the crowd during the festival, enjoying the activities and attractions the celebration has to offer.

Marshall’s Fire Ant Festival has received national attention for its quirky and unusual theme. This unique festival has also been featured on various high-status talk shows like David Letterman and Oprah. With so much attention focused on the festival, it’s no wonder it’s hailed as a must-see attraction for anyone in the nation. Experience the Fire Ant Festival coming up on October 7th and 8th. Let all of us at Nehls Chevrolet know what attraction you’re looking forward to in the comments below!
