Weight Loss: The Chevy Silverado Cheyenne Concept

The Chevy Silverado could get a whole lot lighter in the future.

Chevrolet’s well-known pickup truck is shredding some pounds with the reveal of the Chevy Silverado Cheyenne concept at SEMA this week.

The Las Vegas auto show is showcasing a lighter, performance-based model of the Silverado that trades in the regular cab’s 5.3-liter V8 engine for a 6.2-liter V8 engine that runs on 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque.

GM claims that this concept cuts 200 pounds off the Silverado’s 4,503-pound figure.

In meeting this number, Chevy engineers added a carbon fiber tailgate, bumpers and inner cargo box and removed the trailer hitch, spare tire, the center console inside and some insulation as well.

Also, the Cheyenne concept got carbon ceramic Brembo brakes from the Camaro Z/28 as well as other things, including 19-inch aluminum wheels, Recaro seats and steering wheel.

Thanks to its engine and a high performance exhaust system, this truck will jump from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds.

While this truck is only a concept and may not head to production, you can check out the Chevy Silverado inventory at Nehls Chevrolet!

The Chevrolet Malibu Turns 50

The Chevrolet Malibu turns 50 years old this month.

Since the 1960s, much has changed. A gallon of gas has increased by more than 3 dollars, the cost of a movie theater ticket has jumped $7, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up nearly 14,000 points from where it closed out in 1964.

Like the real world, 50 years has brought much change to the Malibu as well. The now refined midsized sedan debuted in the 1960s as one of the first midsize cars in America, appealing to muscle car lovers and families.

While the 1964 Malibu featured a body-on-frame construction and rear-wheel drive, the 2014 model has a body-frame-integral design and is front-wheel drive. The below chart provides more detail of how far the Malibu has come.

Chevrolet Plans Apocalypse with Black Ops Silverado

Chevrolet Silverado Black Ops
Chevrolet plans for Apocalypse with Silverado Black Ops.

You’ve seen the movies, TV shows and video games. Zombies are on the loose, the world is coming to an end, and anarchy is sweeping across the planet in the form of gunfire and explosions.

Keeping this in mind, Chevrolet has taken the 2014 Silverado Crew Cab 4×4 and redesigned it for Judgment Day, assuming that gas stations will still exist.

The Black Ops Silverado concept is set to debut at the SEMA aftermarket parts show in Las Vegas in early November.

Chevrolet Design Manager Dave Ross calls this more intimidating, darker model “a survival kit on four wheels.” The truck features body armor and a bed-constructed Truck Vault storage area that holds a solar power pack, two gas masks, gloves, military first-aid kit, a folding shovel and a rope.

The back also includes a fuel can, water tank and a crate stocked with food. Twinkies anyone?

Inside the cabin, a world-ending disaster could escape your train of thought due to luxurious, custom-trimmed black seats with yellow piping and a MyLink system for uploading songs from smartphones. In a world catastrophe, a pre-loaded flash drive might be your only option though.
