How to Get Your Car Ready to Trade In

If you’re buying a new car and you want to trade in your old one, there are ways to get your car ready to trade in that will help you get more value of it. They can knock down the offer on your trade-in for a lot of reasons, so try to take care of these issues before the dealer ever sees the car!

Clean your car inside and out, including washing and waxing it and vacuuming the seats and floors, cleaning the dashboard, and rinsing off the floor mats. If the dealership doesn’t have to clean the car themselves, they’ll be more willing to give you a higher offer.

You should also take care of any small cosmetic issues yourself, like scratches and dents. These are guaranteed to lower your car’s trade-in value, and they shouldn’t be too expensive to repair. This goes for small mechanical issues too—replace headlights and top off fluids if you need to. The dealer will fix big mechanical issues, and the cost of repairing them yourself is higher than the amount you’ll pay extra because of the lower trade-in value, so don’t waste your own money on it.

Make sure to bring all the accessories that came with the car, like extra keys, SD cards for the navigation, or anything else that came extra with the car. Not having them will lower your trade-in value.

These are just a few things you can do to prep your car for trade-in. Give us a call at Nehl’s Chevrolet to find out more!

2015 Chevrolet Silverado Improves Under New SAE J2807 Towing Standards

The 2015 Silverado has seen much improvements under the new J2807 towing standards.
The 2014 Chevy Silverado towed 300-500 pounds less than the 2015.

Towing capacity is to pickup truck what fuel economy is to hybrids and driving range is to electric vehicles. In the automotive world, most types of vehicles are intended for a specific purpose and will have an important factor that determines how well that vehicle accomplishes that purpose.

However, unlike hybrids and electric cars, pickup trucks do not have a standard method of determining how much weight a vehicle can actually tow. The problem was that previous methods of tow rating did not take into account different parts, options and passenger weight that negatively affects the total weight a truck can tow otherwise known as a truck’s Gross Combine Weight Rating (GCWR).

In a successful attempt to solve this problem, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) created the J2807 standards. This is a unified system that requires automakers to test vehicles equipped with any options that normally have a 33 percent take-rate, 70 pounds of aftermarket hitch equipments and a driver and a passenger with a combined weight of 300 pounds.

Under this new standard, the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra base models dropped 300-500 pounds of towing capacity, while The V-6 regular cab trucks with four-wheel drive kept the same rating of 7,600 pounds as did certain versions of trucks equipped with the 6.2-liter V-8 and Max Trailering Package, which maintained the top rating of 12,000 pounds.

However, the 2015 Silverado and Sierra base models actually increased towing capacity under the J2807 standards with the four-wheel-drive V-6 models improving by 400 pounds for the Crew Cab and 500 pounds for the Double Cab, a pretty successful jump for Sierra and GMC.

Those of us at Nehls Chevrolet look forward to how the J2807 towing standards will improve the rating system and overviews of current and future pickup trucks.

Stop/Start Technology Standard in 2015 Impala

Chevrolet's stop/start technology shuts down the engine in certain driving conditions to reduce fuel consumption.
The Chevy Impala has been heading in the right direction for years, and now it has reached a new road.

Getting great fuel economy is about to become a whole lot easier for future Chevy Impala owners. The American carmaker recently announced that stop/start technology will come standard on the 2015 Impala base 2.5-liter ECOTEC engine, allowing the vehicle to better its fuel economy by nearly 5%.

With stop/start technology, the engine shuts down in certain driving conditions to reduce fuel consumption. Combined with the Impala’s standard four-cylinder engine, customers will have higher mpg city ratings at 22 mpg without having a higher price tag. The EPA estimates that the stop/start will help the Impala achieve a 25-mpg combined, which is one mpg more than last year’s model.

This new standard feature makes the 2015 Impala the second vehicle in Chevrolet’s lineup to feature stop/start technology, following the 2014 Malibu, which was introduced last year. The 2015 Impala will arrive on dealer lots this summer with a MSRP of $27,735 for the base model with stop/start technology. To see this technology yourself, make sure you stop by Nehls Chevrolet for a test drive when the sedan arrives!

GM Fuel Cell Vehicles Reach 3 Million Mile Fleet Milestone

GM passes a major fleet milestone.
The Chevrolet Equinox makes up most of GM’s fleet of fuel cell cars.

General Motors’ fleet of fuel cell vehicles have taken one giant leap forward in the world of green cars after passing the 3 million miles of hydrogen-power real-world driving. This fleet milestone has helped GM avoid using 157,894 gallons of gasoline consumption by using only hydrogen to power these vehicles.

The fleet is exclusively made up of Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell vehicles, which are part of the American carmaker’s 119-vehicle Project Driveway campaign, which was created in 2007. Over the course of the last seven years, more than 5,000 drivers have provided GM with feedback on the practicality and performance of fuel cell technology.

“Hydrogen fuel cell technology is an important part of GM’s advanced propulsion portfolio and we continue to make substantial progress in furthering this technology,” said Charlie Freese, executive director of GM’s global fuel cell engineering activities. “These vehicles have operated through seven full winters and a wide range of environmental conditions, proving that fuel cells can meet the demands of real-world drivers.”

Currently, GM is the leader in fuel cell technology, which is shown in two different fuel cell-related collaborations. GM and Honda are working together to produce next-generation fuel cell and hydrogen storage systems, while also looking to advance refueling infrastructure. Along with this partnership, GM has also opened a new Fuel Cell Development Laboratory in Pontiac, Michigan to test the fuel cell technology.

Chevy’s “Ergo Chair” Simplifies Installation of Traverse Back Seat

The "Ergo Chair" makes one hard job easy.
The back seat of a Traverse is so comfortable that it alone sells the Traverse.

The Chevrolet Traverse was named one of the 12 Best Family Cars of 2014 by Kelley Blue Book—and it comes as no surprise to us here at Nehls Chevrolet. Usually, all it takes is one look into the Traverse’s cavernous and comfortable back seat, and customers are sold. Or in love. Whichever metaphor you prefer. Here’s the point: with separate infotainment and safety systems as well as special lights, climate control, and even coat hooks, the Traverse has one luxurious back seat.

When you’re trying to install such a complicated backseat on a crowded assembly line, you’re going to be facing some challenges. But Chevy devised a genius solution to all these challenges—the “Ergo Chair.” The “Ergo Chair” is a special chair that allows assembly workers to simply sit down and be carried to every position necessary to install complicated parts like those in the Traverse’s backseat.

“Our goal was to get the operator in and out of the vehicle in the safest and most ergonomic fashion to allow them to do the high amount of overhead and rear work required,” said Dave Bentoski, the lead designer of the Ergo Chair design team. Plus, the back seat they end up installing is just as ergonomic and safe as the Ergo Chair itself.

Chevrolet Trax Offers SUV Features in Small Package

The Chevrolet Trax has already been launched in 60 other countries.

Sometimes the best things really do come in small packages. At least, that’s the case with the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Trax. With the demand for a small vehicle with SUV capabilities growing, Chevrolet will be introducing the small Trax to both the U.S. and China, the brand’s largest markets.

“The Trax truly rounds out Chevrolet’s already very strong small car portfolio,” said Alan Batey, General Motors senior vice president, Global Chevrolet. “Demand for a vehicle with huge capability in a small footprint is on the rise, and the Trax is a perfect fit that offers the latest technology and a bold design with versatility to match.”

Since the Trax was launched in 60 other countries, the small-SUV has sold over 90,000 units, combining style, fuel efficiency, and flexibility to appeal to consumers. Currently, Chevrolet’s small car lineup has seven other models, including the popular Spark, Sonic, and Cruze. Inside the small-SUV, both the second-row and passenger seats fold flat, offering a large amount of cargo that can hold items that are up to eight feet long.

The Chevrolet Trax is set to arrive on dealer lots across the U.S. in 2015. Until then, maybe Nehls Chevrolet can offer you another option from Chevy’s small car lineup?

2015 Chevrolet SS May Get Manual Transmission

The 2015 Chevrolet SS will likely include a manual transmission.
If you had a little fun in the 2014 SS (above), you are probably going to enjoy the 2015 model even more.

There’s nothing quite like driving a car with a manual transmission. It gives you a real connection with the road and makes you feel more in control. That is why we are stoked to hear that the 2015 Chevrolet SS will likely get a manual transmission option.

This is exciting news for anyone who loves a do-it-yourself transmission, especially since models with that option are becoming more and more rare.

Jonny Lieberman, editor for Motor Trend, shared the news first on Twitter. He also revealed that magnetic shocks, which General Motors calls Magnetic Ride, will be coming to the SS as well. That feature paired with a manual transmission would make for a pretty sweet ride.

Lieberman said the 2015 Chevrolet SS should make its debut at the Woodward Dream Cruise this summer. We’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open for more news on the upcoming SS and hope to see it on August 16 at the Cruise.

2014 Chevy Sonic Pricing Announced

The 2014 Chevy Sonic pricing does not feature any major changes.
Unless you want extra features, the 2014 Chevy Sonic should remain about the same cost from last year.

The 2014 Chevy Sonic is available now here at Nehls Chevrolet. Because it was not a major redesign year for the Sonic (with just minor adjustments to the top-selling model), Chevy opted to keep the 2014 Chevy Sonic pricing the same.

The base 2014 Sonic sedan starts as low as $14,995 while the sedan variant has a starting MSRP of $15,995. Of course, opting for trims higher than the base and adding extra features will see those prices rise. Do note that both prices already include an $825 destination charge.

New exterior colors for the Sonic include Ashen Gray Metallic, Red Hot, and Cool Blue. Standard on the LTS and RS trims is a rearview camera, but if you’re after the LT trim, you’ll have to add it as an option. There is also an optional promotion package to include MyLink, a power sunroof, and fog lamps. Drivers can also opt for a safety package that includes forward collision alert and lane-departure warning.

In addition, the Sonic RS Sedan and the Sonic Dusk will be arriving at dealerships sometime this spring. The Sonic RS Sedan will start at $20,530 while the Dusk will sell for $20,945.

Silverado Sees Massive Sales Improvement Due to V6 Engine

The EcoTec3 V6 engine is a nice addition to the Silverado 1500 and a profit for Chevrolet.
Chevy’s boost in sales was helped by the Silverado’s new EcoTec3 V6 engine.

The all-new 2014 Silverado has vastly improved the sales of the full-size pickup. In 2014, the Silverado currently holds a 20% share of the market, whereas the previous model only had 5% of the same market. At Nehls Chevrolet, we believe that the all-new EcoTec3 V6 engine is largely responsible for the uptick.

We’re not alone in this thought either. A recent Chevrolet press release listed five different reasons why the new engine is such an awesome addition to the new 2014 Silverado. However, we’ll just sum up the press release in a few short words: the 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 brings increased power and efficiency to an already awesome vehicle.

The new engine uses EcoTec technology to chug out class-leading torque—305 lb-ft—and 7,600 lbs of available towing. And it’s not short on speed, either. It revs up to 285 horsepower to go with that class-leading torque. And all that comes with 24 mpg highway and 18 mpg city, an awesome improvement in fuel economy in a typically stingy segment.

So come by Nehls and check out the awesome new engine—and the truck that it sits inside of—today!
