Chevy’s contribution to the Oscars came in the form of a commercial titled “Masterpiece.” It was submitted by South Korean independent filmmaker Jude Chun as part of the Chevrolet and MOFILM Oscars film program, beating out 72 submissions in a fight for the opportunity to be played at the Oscars.
The 60-second spot follows the adventures of two child filmmakers who use their imagination and unique creativity to create a short film called “Speed Chaser,” featuring the new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze. Viewers experience their filmmaking process, which includes makeup, props, sounds, special effects, and a whole lot of cuteness.
“A big budget might help, but it’s really imagination, creativity, and passion that gets movies made,” said Chun. “Chevrolet’s brand is about ‘finding new roads’, and that’s exactly what filmmaking is.”
