Four Chevys Earn 2015 IIHS Top Safety Pick Honors

Chevy is closing out 2014 in a big way, announcing that four of its 2015 models have been named Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, Malibu, Spark, and Volt all earned the distinction from IIHS for earning scores of “good” in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints test.

In order to earn that top honor, each vehicle also needed to earn a rating of good or acceptable in the daunting small overlap front test. The Volt and Spark both earned “acceptable” scores (with the latter being one of only two minicars to earn a Top Safety Pick rating), and the Equinox and Malibu earned “good” scores.

With available Forward Collision Alert, Volt, Malibu, and Equinox also earned basic scores for front crash prevention, just missing earning Top Safety Pick+ honors.

“Consumer metric programs such as IIHS Top Safety Pick and NHTSA NCAP provide our customers with information to make comparisons across vehicle manufacturers for a given market segment. Having these four vehicles named 2015 IIHS Top Safety Picks is a great achievement,” said Jeff Boyer, GM vice president, Global Vehicle Safety.

Corvette Stingray Named to Ward’s 10 Best Interiors List

WardsAuto included the 2014 Corvette Stingray on its 10 Best Interiors list.
The interior of the Corvette Stingray is just as inviting as the outside.

The ever-popular 2014 Corvette Stingray was recently named to WardsAuto’s list of the “10 Best Interiors” for 2014. The list contains ten all-new models or models with seriously revamped interiors; the ten were chosen from a pool of 41 total candidates for excelling in areas such as comfort, design harmony, driver information, ergonomics, fit-and-finish, materials, safety, and value.

“We went to great lengths to insure that this vehicle was worthy of the iconic Stingray name on the inside and out,” explained Ken Parkinson, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design. “We selected authentic, premium materials, integrated connected and intuitive technologies, all while balancing craftsmanship and precision execution.”

Specifically, Ward’s highlighted the Stingray’s carbon-fiber trim, contrast stitching on the bucket seats, and microfiber headliner. Additionally, Drew Winter, the editor-in-chief of WardsAuto World, enjoyed the Stingray’s track-focus. Henjoyed it so much that he went so far as to say that it was a main reason that the Stingray was honored.
